Bike riding essentials

Cycling is a healthy, affordable, and practical choice for everyday travel. More and more people of all ages and backgrounds are now riding their bike for fun, fitness and transport. Whether you are just starting to ride, or have been riding for years, this section provides you with a wide range of information and practical tips to make your bike riding experience safer and more enjoyable.

Toolkit for bike planning professionals

This section provides a practical toolkit for NSW and local government decision makers, planners and designers involved in delivering cycling infrastructure, facilities and programs.

Cycling information and resources for workplaces

Organisations of all sizes can greatly benefit from a bicycle-friendly workplace with healthier, happier, and more productive employees. This section helps employers promote a 'bike to work' culture, plan for better bicycle facilities, and provide access to important cycling information. It features a number of case studies and other resources that organisations can use to promote cycling as a healthy, low-cost, and environmentally friendly form of transport to, from and at work.

NSW local council bike plans

A local council's Bike Plan documents cycleway projects and other initiatives that are designed to encourage more and safer cycling in a specific area or region. A bike plan details how local councils improve cycle facilities in communities, establish bicycle-friendly neighbourhoods, and provide access to important cycling information and skills training. This section provides a list of local council bike plans for each region in NSW.

NSW cycling actions

The NSW Government is delivering a cycling action plan that aims to grow bike riding to reach stated targets. The plan includes building bicycle infrastructure to give people more safe places to ride, away from busy traffic - plus a host of supporting policies and initiatives involving many different government agencies, businesses and community organisations. NSW cycling actions are being reviewed as part of work on a new Long Term Transport Master Plan for the State.

Funding for cycling projects

The success of cycling projects at the local level depends on the availability of sufficient funds at each stage. The NSW Government provides some funding for local cycling infrastructure, biking facilities, and cycling events. The information contained in this section has been developed to help local councils, community groups and individuals understand the availability of funding and support for various cycling projects.

Cycling Research

Academic studies and market research will play an important role in the successful implementation of NSW cycling actions, by providing robust evidence and useful insights on cycling in NSW. This section gives planners and other decision makers access to research findings and data which help them make informed choices on cycling policies and projects.

Cycling information for schools

Young people love riding their bikes. One of the main objectives of NSW actions to promote cycling is to make bike-riding safe for all, with a special focus on primary and secondary school age children. This section provides information on how the NSW Government is working with schools, families, community groups and other organisations to develop safe cycling programs for young students.

Survey

Bicycleinfo wants to know your views and ideas

Our Survey section hosts a number of surveys to find out what our customers have to say about the experiences of people who like to get out and ride a bike in NSW. Bicycleinfo survey findings will be used to make Bicycleinfo more responsive to NSW cyclists' views on what you need to stay active on your bike.
