Improving the NSW bike network

The latest provisions for bicycles

Improving the NSW bike network image In line with NSW Government State Plan targets for healthier, safer and more connected communities, the Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) is committed to providing facilities for cyclists as part of major road infrastructure and maintenance projects.

As most bike trips begin and end on a local road, the Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) offers matching funding to NSW local councils to improve local bicycle networks. During 2010/11 the RTA allocated more than $7.2 million to 50/50 fund local cycleway projects in 74 council areas Statewide. The list of 50/50 funded local council projects for the 2011/12 financial year is currently being finalised for announcement.

Additionally, as part of the NSW State Budget a number of Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority) funded cycling infrastructure projects have been announced for 2011/12. These projects are listed below. More information will be provided in due course on additional cycleway projects funded for pre-construction design and development work in 2011/12.
